Gem Fair 2017
The annual Tucson Gem Fair – probably my 30th, was again a wealth of information for an appraiser and educator. Here is a snippet……
Big Blue. I handled the new world-record holder for a synthetic blue diamond, from New Diamond Technologies (NDT) at the JCK show. It weighed in at 10.07 carats and doubled the size of one they unveiled only last March. NDT are the people that brought a record 10.02ct colorless synthetic diamond to the Accredited Gemologists Association Conference in Vegas last summer. I handled that one too (nice being on the conference committee) and expect the records to keep going up. While I have been talking to my students for decades about the production of synthetic diamonds, they are now being effectively produced and marketed. But, we’ll spend more time on that subject later. See a synthetic blue diamond at our next Diamond Grading Class, March 11 & 12 and learn lots about diamond grading, pricing and diamond substitutes. www.nwgem.com. 425.455.0985 for enrollment.
